Clemens Schmitt

Roles
Interdisciplinary Laboratory

For his Diploma thesis Clemens Schmitt studied the structure of the pomelo rind, focusing on its shock absorption capabilities as a possible source of ideas for technological application. For his doctoral dissertation and also during my Postdoc, he went a step further and studied Byssus threads, specifically the protein-metal complexes responsible for the its acellular self-healing abilities. In the project »Historical Structural Investigations«, Clemens Schmitt worked chiefly on developing an ontology of the annotation of historical data. He is equally vested in developing an ontology that is both biologically correct and that can also be applied across disciplines.
