Until 2010, when he enrolled in Art and Visual History and Scandinavian Studies at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Henrik Utermöhle studied Engineering Physics at the Technische Universität Berlin. He has worked as a student assistant in the media centre of the Institute of Art and Visual History and the Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm Centre, as well as the department »Das Technische Bild« at the Hermann von Helmholtz-Zentrum für Kulturtechnik (Hermann von Helmholtz Centre for the Study of Cultural Competencies) and the Institute for the History of Art at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. In the project »Image Guidance« he is responsible for documentation and sourcing publications.
