In March 2012, Kai Kappel was appointed Professor of History of Art at the Chair of History of Architecture and Urban Development and is Assistant Managing Director of the Institute of Art and Visual History at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. 

Research fields

His main research interests are the history of medieval architecture and the architecture of the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries, transculturality in Norman-Staufen Southern Italy and material iconology and spoliation. He also researches the »Lebensreformbewegung« and the »Gartenstadtbewegung«, the reception of the Middle Ages, 20th century traditionalism, Nazi crimes in the European culture of remembrance, the history of science and history of photography.
