Kerstin Germer studied German Language and Literature, Publishing and Musicology in Bamberg, Florence and at the Freie Universität Berlin. 

She was research associate and lecturer of Modern German Literature at the University of Bamberg and completed a doctorate with a scholarship from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes (German National Academic Foundation) on historical processes of mythologisation in recent German history in the novels of contemporary writer Uwe Timm. After an internship as an editor at Verlag C.H. Beck in Munich she lived in the UK and worked, among other things, at the Goethe-Institut London and the academic publishing company John Wiley & Sons in Oxford. 

Kerstin Germer is responsible for the coordination of publications by the Cluster of Excellence»Image Knowledge Gestaltung«.
