Interdisciplinary Laboratory

Lukas Helbich is pursuing a degree in Cultural Studies at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Cultural Studies as well as Sociology from the Zeppelin University Friedrichshafen, where he conducted two interdisciplinary research projects: »Der Linie auf der Spur. Kulturanalytische Versuche zu einer Diagrammatik nach Paul Klee« (On the Line’s Trail. A cultural analysis of Paul Klee’s diagrammatics); and his Bachelor’s thesis titled »Geldbilder. Zur Funktionalen Analyse der Bildlichkeit von Zahlungen in Zeiten des Bargeldes« (The Images of Money. On the functional analysis of payment as imagery in the age of cash). Currently a »Image Knowledge Gestaltung« Themenklasse scholarship recipient, Helbic is working on a research project about the influence of the natural sciences – for example Isaac Newton – on Gabriel Tarde’s sociological theory. One of the project’s focal points is Tarde’s literary experiment »Fragment d'histoire future« (Underground Man), a utopic vision in which Tarde pointedly accentuates the importance of the environment for human society.
