Mai-Lee studies biology at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Since August 2017 she has worked at the Excellence Cluster as an undergraduate assistant. She is also a guest assistant at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces. This is of particular benefit to her work processing datasets for the »Self-moving Materials« project.
As part of this project, Mai-Lee is working on the use of biological materials knowledge in applications relating to non-biological complex structural and material systems. She uses a variety of data processing programmes to study and create representations of the folding and unfolding mechanism of Appendicularia oikopleura diocia.
