Stefan Weinzierl

Stefan Weinzierl’s academic trajectory began in physics and lead him to musicology, then culminating in doctoral degree under the tutelage of Prof. de la Motte-Haber. During his studies, he also worked as a sound engineer and recording manager. In 2004 he was appointed Professor of Communication Studies at the Technische Universität Berlin, which he has directed since 2007. He is the head of the DFG research group »Simulation und Evaluation akustischer Umgebungen,« in addition to acting as dean of the Technische Universität School of the Humanities since 2012.

Stefan Weinzierl specializes in audio-communication. He investigates contemporary scenarios and spaces as well as historic architectures, such as the Italian Renaissance theatre or the symphonic performance practices in the Beethovian era. He lends his expertise to the project »Analog Storage Media II,« working intensively on simulations of the Forum Romanum and the Greek Agora. In addition to contributing his technical knowledge of audio-communication, Prof. Weinzierl’s collaboration aims to pose questions on the relevance and function of acoustic knowledge within the study of the history of Greek and Roman architecture.
